adventurers have wandered through here since April 25th, 1999.

First of all I'd like to thank everyone for visiting this page. I'm sorry that updates have been delayed lately, but I don't have access to a scanner during the summer months. Beginning next month updates will be frequent again. I've collected many more packages and the archives here have many new entries to look forward to.

Personal note: I am always interested in $$$ BUYING $$$ Infocom, Cinemaware, and Lucasarts games and memorabilia! I love to buy factory sealed packages from years back, especially for the Amiga and Commodore platforms, including games from these publishers as well as other miscellaneous games. Please e-mail me if you have anything to offer or know of sources selling these items.

Play Infocom Games Cheap!

Here is the definitive source of info on where to find the major game collections by Infocom, so you can play all 35 text adventures on a modern computer platform. Be sure to read on to find out how you can play Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy for less than $6!

To get your quest for adventure started, go to the Infocom Home Page and download the freeware Zork I, II, III, and the recently released new-for-the-'90s mini-Infocom text adventure Zork: The Undiscovered Underground. Be sure to check out the Z-Machine Interpreters section, where you can download freeware applications to play Infocom "Z-files," i.e. the game data files, on virtually any computer platform available. If you like the games, then continue reading to find out how you can play the rest of the Infocom library!

The '90s Infocom rerelease packages include Lost Treasures of Infocom I, Lost Treasures of Infocom II, various smaller packages themed to a genre or to Zork, and the most recent and still in-print Masterpieces of Infocom. Your cheapest bet is to buy the Masterpieces CD-ROM, but you'll still be missing Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Shogun. Alternatively, if you buy the first two Lost Treasures CD-ROMs, you'll have all the games except Leather Goddesses of Phobos. Each Lost Treasures CD-ROM has about half the games. The Lost Treasures also come with lots of printed documentation, whereas Masterpieces only has the documentation scanned onto the CD for computer screen viewing.

I believe all Lost Treasures 3.5" disk versions are platform-specific. The Lost Treasures I CD-ROM may come in both platform-specific and PC/MAC compatible versions. The Lost Treasures II CD-ROM and Masterpieces CD-ROM are all installable on both PC and MAC. However, once you have the game files, it should be possible to import them to the platform of your choice and play them with a freeware interpreter, e.g. e-mail yourself the files from a MAC and download them on your PC.

Lost Treasures of Infocom (has 20 games, the only one with Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, CD-ROM and 3.5" disk versions have identical contents):

Lost Treasures of Infocom II CD-ROM (has 14 games, the only one with Shogun, however the 3.5" disk version only has 11 games lacking Shogun, Journey, and Arthur):

Masterpieces of Infocom (has 33 games, the only one with Leather Goddesses of Phobos, however it lacks Hitch and Shogun)

On most sites type Infocom in search engine to find product:

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy for $6?
It's true!

A couple years back 31 of the 35 the Infocom text adventure games were rereleased in six smaller themed collections (Adventure, Fantasy, Science Fiction, Mystery, Comedy, and the Zork Anthology). They predate the Masterpieces CD-ROM, which is the only edition currently in print, but some websites have an interesting option to purchase older releases via electronic transfer. Nothing is shipped to you, you just buy and download it. Apparently these stores get the rights to sell the games electronically from a larger service that hosts their sites. The 5 Infocom genre collections are available. Overall it is still cheaper to buy the Masterpieces CD-ROM, but of course that does not include Hitchhiker's. The good news is that the Infocom Sci-Fi Collection does include Hitchhiker's, and it only costs $6 to download! Shogun, Journey, Arthur, and Leather Goddesses of Phobos did not show up in these five collections, so Lost Treasures II CD-ROM (with Shogun, Journey, Arthur) and Masterpieces CD-ROM (with Leather Goddesses, Journey, Arthur) are still necessary to be complete. But the Infocom Sci-Fi Collection eliminates the need to buy Lost Treasures I, unless you want it for the printed documentation.

Since you may not receive any documentation, you should be able to find some scanned in on the Infocom Home Page.

Douglas Adams' company, The Digital Village, has released a java port of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. The one big drawback is that it does not have a save game feature. They have plans to release shareware versions of the full game for PC and Mac, so, if the Infocom Science Fiction Collection ever completely disappears from the market, thankfully the game will live on.

Infocom Trophy Case

These picture archives should grow at a steady rate, and eventually be laid out more nicely. I expect to scan and/or link to as many box fronts, backs, and props as I can get access to in the coming months. These pictures should help satisfy the curiosity of Infocom fans and get people in the mood to play the games, as was the original intention of the packaging. They might also provide a handy reference for trading titles with people who are not familiar with the various packaging formats.

Titles are listed in chronological order of original release:
